I just replaced my factory system in my '91 Limited with a Sony CD Receiver. I have been getting worse FM reception than the factory unit and I get "pops" on the right channel on AM stations. The Sony should have a lot better sensitivity and there's no magic to plugging the antenna in. Has anyone else experienced this with a new unit? I just took it out again and moved the connector around some more, so I'll see if that makes a difference. I may return it to Crutchfield for a new one, just to be sure.

Thanks for any feedback.

Do you have a Ham radio or CB in your truck as well?

I just remembered something else, I DID have a Sony unit, but then uninstalled it. I did have problems as well, due to an amplifier hooked up to it. I kept getting a clicking sound on my right side speakers. What the installer had told me is that my aftermarket amp was somehow grounded correctly, but for some reason, some of the grounding was running back through the RCA's hooked up to it. The cure for that was a to simply ground the RCA cables at the head unit end to the chassis as well. I guess there is a little $5 wire, unless he did it himself. That's about as far as I can go with that note, because after all that, I just put the Alpine head back in. I don't know how much it helps, but maybe it will lead you in some direction.
