Is this the correct section for 2002 Explorer 2dr posts? The legends seems it imply I should post in the 1995-2001 section but nothing appears related. The vehicle is virtually the same as the 4 dr from what I see. Please advise and I will delete this.

Hi, I am new to this forum and just picked up a 02 Exlporer Sport loaded which has factory fog lights in the lower bumper. I saw them working two weeks ago prior to purchase. Now they are not. I have poured through the manual. There is a Auto light delay selection on the rear mirror not explained in the manual. I was looking at that since I have exhaust most areas.

I checked the fog light fuse under the hood and it is ok. Also pulled and continuity is good with 12v on the pins. Tried all positions of the headlamp switch etc. Looked for posible dash fuses problem in the side fuse panel as well but nothing.

NOTE: This beast has a sensor in which the headlights come on by themselves and go off on their own as well. I saw that happen going into the garage. Also the LED on the dash switch does NOT come on at all. Leading me to believe there is a power issue to the switch. Is there a relay also part of this circuit which I have yet to identify. I have not had a full day to trouble shoot this any further but will try again tomorrow. But both bulbs cannot be blown and LED would come on regardless of the bulbs themselves. I could look for power at the bulb but with not LED on I very much doubt that could be the problem.

Anyone with quick pointers into this. Dozens of thread in a seach on updating moding etc here but trouble shooting was not seen. I may need to get schematics down the road for this.

For an interior issue you can post here, if it is a mechanical issue you should post in the other are due to the differences between the 4 door and 2 door. on the light switch, turn the lights on and pull the knob out, this should turn the fogs on. I apologize if you already tried this but given that you are a new explorer owner I am keeping it simple first. Let me know if this fixes the problem.

Yes, that is what we first tried. HL on, parking lights and off. The Fogs don't seem to come on in any position of the head light rotory knob. I have left the FL switch pressed in for most of the test and did not toggle it most of the time. Such a simple thing. It worked at the dealer a week ago when I first looked at the vehicle. But after predelivery certification etc we find it does not work. Some post I have searched and read in earlier models say there is a relay under the air box. Now as far as I can tell the 4 dr and 2dr are identical under the hood. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks, I will have to get my head around where to post correctly here.

you are correct, under the hood much the same, suspension and drive train different in many ways having to do with the IRS I beleive

I have resolved the problem. I turned out to be a weird relay problem. I found a distribution box just to the right of the air box by a 1" about the bottom level below the upper rad hose. It turns out after much effort and scraped arms and wrists I got into the plastic box. There are five relay within. 2 at the left end and 2 at the right end and one big one in the middle. It appears a relay had a bad contact or not seated propert. With the end relays all being the same part # I swapped the two at each end.

Low and behold they now work. I sense that the rear set could be responsible, I can feel a slight activation viration when turning the fog lights on and off.

Now only to find a manual documenting which relay does what for furture reference since the owners manual ommits them.

I hope this might help someone else in their troubleshooting.
