Fog lights?

Hi, first time poster here. I have a 97 Mountaineer, and I know with my SHO, you can cut one wire and splice it into another to let you use the fog lights when the parking lights and high beams are on, in addition to the regular use. I tried this in the Merc, since the wiring looked identical, to no avail. I see newer (99-up?) explorers driving around with the parking/fogs on, but they have the round fogs instead of the rectangular. Is there a way to get the lights to work as I described above?
