I know there was some talk about the Scangauge being, a bit, ugly and bulky.................but if you have the console with the rectangular ashtray in it, it makes a great mounting location. Takes about 5 minutes to take up the covers, remove the ashtray, and route the data cable. I'll rig up a support and "surround" for it later.

If it the ashtray was about 1/8" wider, it could easily be rigged "into" the ashtray, and allow you to flip the ashtray lid over it, and then it would be completely stealth, but no such luck. Or maybe someone else can see another way of doing that, that I just can't see right now.

Sometimes, I think I'm the only one without a message center. Nice Robb, I'm probably going to be picking one up soon. I'm SOL on the custom mounting though.

Me too :(

But thats why I bought the scangauge :)

I wedged mine in the upper compartment. Looks somewhat good. I can't do anything permanent because it get switched around now and then.

Todd, I have that same console set up. I think that is the dumbest design the Ford made for those compartment spaces. They are useless except to hold cds, which I don't use anymore (thank you iPod)

I've been toying with the idea of a scan gauge. Happen to know if they can display tranny temp? This will be for my f150, there is a nice cubby that's TOTALLY useless and would make a good place to mount it. I've done alittle searching but haven't found a definitive answer...i know that obdII systems have a temp sensor in the tranny, just wondering (didn't mean to hijack the thread haha)

code

nope, no tranny temp.

That is one of my problems with the scanguage.
It displays more " useless " information that vital.

It will only display what your OBD port recieves, do's yours report Tranny temp? I think not

My Macto M-1,000 scan tool can pull the tranny temp from the OBD port
( actually called a DLC )

Thats cool, I do not have an ODB port as per your post, so I cannot get tranny temp via my scanner, but I do get tide tables, barometric pressor, and wind velocity, via my OBD port, on a clear day I can get the local fishing reports :D

I assume mine will end up like todd's. I will need it in other vehicles along, so it needs to be easily removable. I hate those dumb shaped cubby holes. Nothing fits well in them and the scanguage needs to go somewhere.

I sat it where todd has his on the trip over here this morning. It looks ok there, but is hard for me to read and drive in these hills/curves. I will have to try to find a higher location to put it.

Anyway, its a very cool toy to play with. Does anyone know how accurate the MPG is? I was going down a very long grade and glanced over....80...90...100...132 MPG. I was like ------>

That all changed going up the next hill.....4.6 MPG. :D
The 50 mile drive averaged 22.4 MPG if its close at all.

I punched it going over a mountain in Hagarstown Maryland got got it up to 189 MPG on the way down. Granted I was getting 4 MPG on the way up the mountain :D

I think I am in trouble now. Get ready for peak mileage competitions. :p

My dads old LTD had a computer that did this same thing. My brother and I competed to see who could get it to go the highest.

I keep trying to get 200, but have yet to get there

do not be confused Monmix, just explain how your ODB port works, as per your post, most have obd ports

I will explain.
The technical term for the OBD port is DLC
Data Link Connector.

Granted if you say OBD port every one will know exactaly waht you mean. I was just sharing this information for what it is worth. I thought maybe, just maybe some one might want to know the actual name for the OBD port.

Monmix, let us get few things worked out here # 1 there is no such thing as an ODB port, such a thing do's not exsist, as you keep making mention of.
# 2 , if everyone knows what the ODB port is, than perhaps they do not realize that the proper name is an OBD port.
ODB do's not exsist as you refer to, not being pissy, but the correct info would be best
