Hello. I've got an interesting predicament. As I posted in a previous thread, my drivers side door was falling apart. Instead of fixing it, I decided to get one from the junkyard. After getting it home and getting the old door off, I found that the new door had larger plugs on the wires that connect the power mirrors, doors and locks.

After taking a look on the inside panel, the dates for the old door state 05/94 and the new door 08/94. Does anyone have anymore info on why they did this, and/or is there a wiring harness that converts them?

Thanks!

dated 8/94 MAY be a 95 model year door or wiring.. thats pretty close to the changeover time.

but dont be surprised at stuff like this. they all make changes mid stream to save $ or fix an problem.

If the Explorer door has a large connector in the jamb area with a circular pattern to the wires as you look at them, that is a 95-01 door. You can swap the doors, but the wiring is far different. You should use a pre-95 door. The older doors have a pair of wiring connectors that are hard to get out of the jamb enough to separate them. The newer LF door has a connector which bolts together with one 10mm bolt.

I have seen that same thing in my trips to the junkyard.

Just go back and get another wiring harness from an Explorer from an earlier Explorer.

Can you salvage the old harness & acessories & put them in the new door?

Yes, that can work also, but just seal the huge hole left from the 95-01 door harness. The older harnesses are easy to remove from a door. The LF harness from a 95-01 is very hard to remove or install.
