How are the engines mounted in the new explorer? is it mounted longitudinal or transverse. I am asking because i notice that it is 4 wheel drive as opposed to all wheel drive. All input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that info Riley. I went out and had a look and thought that is what it might be but with that big cover on I wasn't sure.
I was going to take a picture but there wouldn't be much to look at. A far cry from my first car, a '61 Rambler Classic!
The reason i ask is because on my cx9 which has the same duratec engine, water pump replacement requires removal of the engine. Does this also apply to the explorer.
Why did ford design the engine this way? this replacement is very expensive. What where they thinking when they design the engine and car. I had a windstar that was very easy to maintain and it lasted me 16 yrs. I am wondering if the new vehicles that ford makes would even last 10.
