Ford Explorer Recall

Only if you are under the 6/70000 milage limit. I had to go to alldata and print the ONP and hand it to him before he would do anything. Not to mention a lot of begging and pleading. This is not a recall, but only a Owner Notification Program which means if they want to replace it they can, if not your SOL.

Isn't this a "warrenty campaign"? Meaning, Ford is voluntarily doing this? Doesn't "recall" mean the NTHSA (or whomever) mandates it be done?

For instance: In '95 my '84 Nissan 300ZX GLL+ had it's fuel injectors/rails/pessure reg replaced under a "warrenty campaign" even though it had well over 300k documented miles and was 11 years old. Later (maybe the next year) this "warrenty campaign" became a "recall" that was mandated and covered all 300ZX's some Maximas and some 200SX's.

EDIT: um, if I hadn't taken so long to type this post or just waited a bit longer, I'd have seen the post above mine...

The letter to the owners extended it to 7yrs/100000 miles. It also says that your Ford dealer WILL replace it for free, not may, but will. The letter gives you two numbers, one to ford the other to some govt. agency, to call if your dealer refuses.

Can any one tell me does the ONP (Owner Notification Program) "00M12" bulletin apply in the UK ?

UPDATE:

I got my X back a few days ago with the 00M12 kit installed....at no charge!!

After making enough noise and staying on them about the whole fact that it was extended, the dealership performed the repair at no cost to me. However, they never admitted to me that the ONP was extended. It may have been that they just wanted to "shut me up" and send me on my way. I guess I'll never know!

What matters is that is has been taken care of, free of charge to me and now my Explorer is purring like a kitten! Man, what a big difference this repair has made with the way this truck runs now!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to you all that advised and gave insight and opinions into this situation!

Explorer owners rule!!!

happy for you....

I am happy it all worked out for you....another case of the old adage that "knowledge is power"!

I just got off the phone with the Ford dealership to get my recalls fixed before they expire. I had no problems when I talked to the guy and asked about the extension and everything. I can confirm that the 00M12 is for 6 years/72,000 miles. But as far as the 7 years/100,000 miles, that is not the chain tensioner and intake gasket, but was told that it was for the cam chain guide...or something of the sort, but aren't the same thing? I'm bringing it in today and hopefully will have it back in the next couple days and confirm more what they did and what's covered. But it certainly doesn't hurt trying to get it fixed unless you know for sure that you're way over the limit.
