ford explorer trans problem please help me

when i drive i feel my explorer go back and forward . it's a shift problem i thing on 4th gear. most common when 40 to 50 miles. if i change to 3rd manual the problem dessapear. but when put on drive again the problem start. if i drive on a highway up to 80 miles or more the problem dessapear.
its most common on 40 to 50 miles, an extrange movemet back and forward.
i'm new here any help i will appreciate.

Hi Balston,

Your problem is very common (mine has a similar problem). The short answer to your question is: no one knows 100% answer.

My rig still drives, even though it is "clunky" when shifting. My current plan is to drive it until it breaks and then go from there :-)

Some people have very good luck with just changing transmission fluid and filters (not flushing, just changing).
