96 Ford Explorer XLT/4wd
:exp:

hey people hope all is well !

i have a question. i have a 96 explorer xlt with 4 wd.

i bought the car in may of last year and only got it with 1 key.
when i close the doors the "theft" light on the dash comes up.

does my car have a factory alarm?

how could i find out?

i wanna buy the remote for it but want to know if it will activate and work with my situation.

Please let me know

thanks

No, the theft light does that on all of them with the PATS system. It's a chip in the key essentially.

You more than likely can buy a remote with it if you have power door locks, but it has nothing to do with an alarm.

'96 doesn't have PATS nor a "chipped" key. Given that it has power locks and a Theft light, it probably has remote capability. Look in the driver's side rear cargo compartment. Take off the access panel and look forward; you should see a silver box - that is the "RAP" (Remote Acccess Personality) box and controls the remote access. If you have one, you should be able to buy a remote off ebay and program it pretty easily.
