Ford Quality Control

My story,
2012 limited.301A package. Windshield noise, the bee above pass sun visor . Black electrical tape fixed that. Rain noise, tin drum. Epas locked up.
Pass door not aligned. Tail gate not aligned. Nav and voice commands were terrible.
Traded for a town and country limited. Liked it ok, but wasn't real happy with it.
Trade for a 2014 XLT. I liked it. Nav, voice commands better. No rain or bee noise. Pass door and tail gate not aligned. But other wise very happy with it. I liked the paddle controls better than the little round buttons on the control panel. I missed the features of the 301A package. Trade for a 2014 edge limited. Really liked it, but no epas. I have torn tendons in shoulders and no epas made it hard to drive.
Trade for a 2015 XLT. Pass door is finally aligned. Tail gate off on pass side. Got some rubber shims and put on it. Now the panel below the head light on drivers side is separated. I read about this on this forum. I thought I was the only 1 with this problem. Part is on order at the dealer.
I really like the quality of materials on the explorer. But I would think after 5 years that the quality control of the build would be better. Someone needs to be fired.
The Edge will have epas on it this year. The build quality of the edge is much better than the explorer. So, I will be trading again. Who puts the explorer together and who does the quality control on it?
I like the functions of Ford. Really like the voice commands for everything. Especially climate, and nav. Like the travel link also. The services feature with operator option is great.
The escape with the toe open tail gate. Not very good. Who wants to stand on 1 food to open a tail gate. Chrysler T&C limited. If you stand at the tail gate for 3 seconds it opens. Ford take a hint. If an option is available for the escape(a small suv) Why not on all the suv's.
Im staying with ford until someone comes out with the same or better options, but someone needs to get on the quality control people.

I also have a 15' XLT and don't have any of the alignment issues. After reading some posts on this forum, I had to go out and do a serious bumper to bumper inspection about one week after I bought it. I think everything looks good. I really love the seats in it. They are definitely the highest quality seats I've had in a car and even look/feel better than my wife's Acura MDX. The white stitching and dark grey suede down the middle really sets them off. I also work with a guy who drives a 2012 Lexus GX 460 and the other day he sat in my Explorer. After we got out, he said that he's getting tired of his Lexus and will be going to the Ford dealer to test drive an Explorer.

I think every option of opening the liftgate has its pros and cons. I don't have any issue with the current system the Explorer has although an added hands free option would be handy at times. The 2016 will have the foot 'kick' system which really doesn't force you stand on one leg while swiping the other foot under the bumper. It is more like walking up to the vehicle and making a quick step up under the bumper. The 3 second option in my opinion is not something I would want. What happens when you stand behind the vehicle to clean the windshield or scrape snow/ice off of it. That will take more than 3 seconds so does that mean the liftgate is going to open while I'm standing there? I saw the Motoring 2015 TV show this week and showed the Sonata with the 3 second system. Their issue is that while it unlocks the trunk, the lid does not fully open.

My grandfather went through three Freestar's before he got one that didnt have something horribly wrong with it. This one is now showing signs of a valve failure and its banging up a storm(detonating). He refuses to make the dealer fix it and has already replaced the coil pack on his own dime just so he wont have to deal with them. I guess he's just going to trade it in when it does konk out. :roll:

First one the rear passenger seats wouldnt lock down to the bar (how did this leave the factory!?).
Second was door hinges were misaligned
Third, the hood was offset, so it hit the fender aprons. It rusted the paint off in a week.

I guess you've never looked closely at a Flex. The worst door and tailgate alignment of any Ford. Go look down the side of one from back to front and see how off the door edge to fender margin is.

I'll say both my front doors on my PI are misaligned and "sag" to the rear, I wrote it off as having the ballistic inserts adding 45lbs to each door being the culprit, but I need to go look again. I'll post some photos here in a sec

LOL.If someone really wanted to find out, it would be pretty easy.

Most departments use lvl III armor is only the driver side door. It's less for protecting the officer while sitting inside and more for giving them a barrier to hide behind if they're ever in a shoot out. Lvl III armor will/should stop anything up to a .308 pill.

Some departments splurge and purchase Lvl IV armor which will stop armor piercing rounds. I was just curious which ones are in his door because he said they weigh 4 pounds and most Lvl III door panels weigh less than 40 pounds.
