ford ranger starting promblems

I have a 96 ford ranger 4x4 3.0 6 cylinder. my ranger will start and seem to run fine but if i take it up the street and then shut it off and then try to start it agen it will just turn over and not ever fire and then it also smells like it is flooded when i am done trying to start it. But then if i let it sit for like 8 hours to a hole day it will start right up and stay running. any help on this problem who be very helpful.

Welcome to this forum! It sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator, out of spec ECT sensor or leaking injectors. Check the fuel pressure first, and see if it maintains pressure when you turn the vehicle off.

i checked the fuel pressure and it seems good but once i try to start it and it dont start u cant tell that it is flooded so its getting fuel it almost seems like it has some thing to do with the timing.
