Looking at getting the Ford/Visteon satellite radio upgrade kit. Was curious if anyone has done their own install? search the web and can't seem to find what involved. I assume the radio has to be pulled from the dash and the plug ins are in the back. I have the audiophile radio with SAT button.

From what I've gathered, the install is simple. The unit mounts under the passenger's seat, the antenna is a magnet-mount, and typically gets placed on the right-front of the roof, similar to where the newest Explorers and Escapes have it mounted from the factory. The wiring then goes to the head unit and plugs in to the back of it.

I've been wanting to get this set up for a long time now, but due to laziness and not really needing it, I've been procrastinating.

One of these days though...

I have a Sirius window mount, maybe that's the easiest way to go.. I'm not sure how easy it is to pull the head unit from the dash... I assume the antenna wire routs in the back of the dash, up the door pillar on to the roof.

Nope, the antenna will plug into the Sirius unit under the seat. Route it along the passenger's side "A" pillar, then down underneath the carpeting, and up to the unit. Removing the passenger's seat will probably be the easiest way to do the whole install. I don't know 100% if the aftermarket antennas have the same plug as the Ford/Visteon unit. You may be stuck with the one they provide with the kit.

One of these days I'm going to just go ahead and get this kit, and when I do, I'll post detailed installation instructions. I do have a .pdf of the user's manual. This forum doesn't support .pdf files, but if you want it, just email me at FordExplorerGuy@gmail.com and I'll send it off.
