Ive seen them on the new Edge, and the Taurus now, im talking about the LED (Or neon?) strips where foglights would normally be.

Do they have a purpose or is it just for looks? The only thing I can think of is maybe its for that auto braking/auto cruise control system they have, but I dont see the purpose of them glowing. It does look nice though.

I haven't seen then on, but I know here in Japan they love using LED's for everything. They have LED head lights and all that jazz. They seem to be brighter and less reflective in the rain and what not. But then again I'm not 100% sure.

I think you nailed why I don't like LEDs all over the place. They seem to go well with "Type R" stickers and giant whale tails. :D

Led headlights sound interesting, but these lights I'm talking about arent bright enough to be a standalone light. I'm just curious if they're only for looks or if they actually serve a purpose. I'm in class on my iPhone right now, I'll try to find a picture of them to post, if I can't, then I'll find one when I get home.

Pay attention in class.

Thanks Joe! Haha but it's a lazy day, were watching the movie "Crash" which is great.

Those same strips are also on the Edge, just mounted vertically, and about twice as long if I remember correctly.

Believe it or not. But the locals dont have the typical rice application all over their cars. After being here I think its more of an american thing. I think I have only seen about 3 local cars that are "riced" out. When they build a car they actually build it right. Plus I think they are smart enough to know that the whale tails are useless in a drift. They dont even sell rice stuff in the auto stores.

But they love lights over here. LED headlights. LED conversions for any bulb imaginable. Including the little bus fuse looking light in the rear cargo area. They even have LED lights for house bulbs. Its crazy here

WOW!!!!!!! Those do look useless. The only way I can see them working would be the reflection from the fog lighting up the road. We need to find some one with a new car and drive it into the fog!!!!

That's what I'm sayin, I wonder if they're part of that auto braking or the automatic sensing cruise control.

They wont help you see, but they will help you be seen. Like daytime running lights.

Are they on with the key or on with the headlights?

I don't think they come on with the key because I've seen many Tauruses during the day driving absurdist not on, unless they're just extremely hard to see.

window sticker says they are "supplemental park lamps"

Kinda like the Audi's

Before long they're gonna have some sort of paint that lights up, so that the whole vehicle glows in the dark, without light hitting it... kinda like those fish that live at the bottom of the ocean....

I mean they definitely look nice, but I would much rather have them incorporated into the headlight, OR have a foglight setup with them in it.

Zav, you need to get me a bunch of those LED for my house, either box them up and ship them or have Brandi bring them on her next trip back :)

Jeff

I would but they are expensive here. Those lights are about 3000 yen which with the exchange rate is roughly 35-40 bucks....EACH!!!!!!!!! the auto stores here I could blow through my paycheck and not do anything to alter the body or performance of the cars. But you best believe before I leave I'm loading up on LEDs.
