Just thought I would post my way of getting at the radio. It might be a bit more involved.... but its cheap, requires one tool, you dont need to make one, and you can work in the warmth of your house too 
Remove 2 screws from the under radio trim using a 7mm socket.
Next,
Gently pull the radio trim out and unplug the four-wheel drive ( if equipped ), also disconnect the lighter connections.
And then pull out even further to disco the HU from the harness and walk inside where it is warm.... install the new HU and walk back out.... plug it back in... put it back in... turn the X on and be warm still....
