After messing with my 99 ohv for a while with a hard start issue, and random misfires, code po402 and po301, among others,
i jumped in with both feet last night to try once again to figure this thing out,,
Idle was not smooth, and at the tail pipe there was a puffing noise that accompanied the rough idle, i thought i tried everything,,
plugs, wires, coil packs, even compression tests, everything passed with flying colours as it all came off another perfectly running engine, and when the parts were put on that engine, it ran awesome, no problems,,
Okay, now down to the meat of it,
i was hearing what sounded like a vacuum leak but i could never seem to find it, i tried about everything,, to no avail,, i was still getting about 20 0-21 mpg on the highway, so it was all good,,
so, i lived with it,, as weird as that sounds,,
Up to last night,, i was fudging around with some stuff and tried a new egr , it went on great, and fit well, , well at least i thought it did,, truck ran the exact same , no change,,
so, i started looking it all over again, turns out, the gasket that goes in between the egr and the upper pipe that goes into the manifold was not making a good seal, i ran my fingers across the top of the mounting surface and it changed the noise i was hearing,, so , i took it all apart again,
the mounting tab was bent for some reason, and it could not seal at all, , but by the time i figured this out,, i had fudged the gasket, it's some kind of high heat foil type dealio, and i would gues 1 use only,,
so i put it all together with what was left of the gasket and some high temp silicone made for exhaust, and ,,,,,
it was like a different motor, smooth at idle, no hiccups, no codes, and so much nicer,,
now i am not sure that this is the same thing that could be wrong with a bunch i see with idle issues,, but it gives you another lead to track down and check,,
