Hello everyone,

Long story short, was having lag issues shifting between 2nd and 3rd unless i feathered the throttle. Was getting a PO745 in the scanner (solenoid pack). Took the pan off to replace the solenoid and found this guy on the magnet. Looks to be in good condition. Its something related to the intermittent brake system. Can someone help me out on what it is and if its fixable?

You have a non-operating band. The part is the link which connects to the band and compresses it. This likely indicates the band has broken, IMO. If 2nd. gear operated normally, no noises or slipping (engine speed-up), and 3rd. gear felt abnormal, I'm fairly confident the Intermediate band is at fault. It is the only band applied in 3rd. gear. imp

That for sure is a band anchor and now one of the bands doesn't work. You have to tear down the transmission to fix it.

Thanks for the info, that is what I feared to here. My explorer is in pretty rough shape at this point. I am going to just put back together, fill it up and call it a day. Sell for parts at this point.

I will risk speaking for us all: we all love these Explorers despite any shortcomings known to exist, and some of us (myself included), try to keep them serviceable no matter what. But, we certainly appreciate the chance to deliberate and commiserate over, a problem which needs solved. Good luck with your next endeavor! imp

I have put a lot of work into this truck the past couple years, replacing parts but this one is beyond me. Its pretty much winter here and I don't have a garage to do this work. :(

You have a broken band that will require transmission removal and disassembled for repair. Very common issue along with others on this transmission. Best of luck.
