I have a 93 GT from when I was in high school. I got it with 8mi from the dealer in 92. I just got a 2014 PIU for my kid, and someone told me there is a way to get the motor adapted to the explorer. Does anyone know about this? I'm sure it has been done somewhere, but I would really be down for making this happen. Even if I have to pick up another PIU.

To adapt a longitudinal motor into a front wheel drive chassis is a massive undertaking. I'm not sure how the electronics of the stock PIU would work with the engine management for an older engine. IMO, you would be far better off buying an Explorer Sport. It can be tuned to deliver more horsepower and torque than a built 302 with far less cost and hassles. In many states this engine swap might not be street legal. Also, you would have to gut the whole drive train and custom fit a solid axle in the rear somehow. Thinking about the amount of time and money needed to do this would have me :banghead:

I'm all for some 5.0 fun but this would be a massive project. For years people said you couldn't fit a 4.6 into a 1st or 2nd gen Taurus, Someone did it to prove them wrong, I'm sure with enough time and money you could make this happen.

Last year of the 5.0 was 2001

Putting it into a 2014 would be a huge challenge

Stranger things have been done like a small
Block Tesla a 5.3 Miata, a 5.0
Focus, and even a 7.3 into a 04 explorer….
Some of them should be built and some should not…
Who are we to decide!
