Free Enclosure Designs

I would place the driver on the far right side but because the sub is so big I moved it to the center so I could put some bracing rods to help keep the baffle from flexing.

The port is 18" x 5"

That is impressive. Can you take another picture using a different view with all the measurements? Can't tell how wide the port opening is from there.

This was merely a design that I am going to build. If you want something different like sub up port back than I can do that.

I mean more as in this specific design of ported. I'm just curious if you like these, or if you think they perform better?

Well...I like these designs because of my experience in building them. All of my enclosures have met or exceeded my expectations.

I just like the sound of ported enclosures...I hate sealed boxes.

Here is one of my loudest enclosures...with a single 15 and 600 watts it was louder than a lot of other peoples 1000+ watt systems with multiple woofers.

If it wouldn't be too much bother..could you send me the general dimensions for that box? I have a sub like that that I want to make a box for, and I like your design.

If you could do that, that would be awesome. I would like it to point up. Also, where do the wires come out on this box?

Originally I had a JL 15W4 in there with 300 watts and it was LOUD. Has excellent control over cone excursion also.

The box barely fit between the wheel wells.

I post up the plans though...They are on my computer somewhere but I'll put em up later tonight.

Thanks!

I'm going to be putting in an older 15" older rockford, or a 15" pyle. I haven't decided yet, because the rockford would be better quality, but the pyle would be louder.

I need one, brother... hook me up! it's a very small container that will fit under my rear seat. I have the design in mind... 8" sub.

Nam...I got a feeling you are about to get overwhelmed with box building now that you put yourself on the line...Have fun.

Ha! So make mine first... 10Lx10Wx5H Grey carpet... or should this be in the vendor section? Anywho... What are your prices and such? For an 8" sub.

I'm not actually building enclosures right now...I'm just doing some designs.

Well in line right now is

-Zelatio (if he ever replies)

-Donner

Donner...are you wanting me to actually build it and send it to you??

Would love if you can design a ported box with the sub pointed up. That would be great.

If you guys are looking to get designs built, if Nam doesn't want to go into business, there are some great guys to contact on the internet.

www.woodlawncabinetry.com Phil is a great guy
http://community-2.webtv.net/MarvsPlace/MarvsPlace/ Marv does good work
www.fishercustoms.com BJ is forum friendly and top notch
http://eastcoastenclosures.homestead.com/index.html Mobileman- John is a great fellow who has a terrible webpage, but his woodworking skills are FINE.

Every one of these can turn your design into an enclosure for reasonable cost, and you should also call Chris (screenname Mandos) at Elemental Designs. They do their enclosures on CNC routers and have some different coatings they can use, at VERY reasonable prices, but they may take longer, or may not take some designs.

Yes please... pm me on price and time frame, you don't use like pure mahogany woods and Corinthian leather? This is regular material, right? :D

And for the metal connectors, I don't need those... but a slot about .5 x.5 inches on the side would be nice!

what subwoofer and enclosure size and specs

I took some measurements tonight..

The box size (big tube) inside dimensions are 24" across and 34.5" tall.

The port is 6" across and is 15.5" long. The port extends into the box 14" (for subtracting from the total box volume)

The speakers are DVC-310-88 speakers from Partsexpress. Here is the page with all the specs..
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-185&ctab=2#Tabs.

They are 8 ohm voice coils and I am running them as four 8" speakers (i.e. I have four amp channels and each channel is running to each speaker, no bridging or paralelling the circuits)

They are running on 4 channels off a 6 channel Kenwood KM-Z1 amplifier which is rated for 135 watts/channel @ 8 ohms.

What I'm looking for is how far down is it tuned (and if you can make it an expected freq response chart) and how much power they can handle in that box.

Oh yea, I have a 12dbi subsonic filter that is set at 20hz on the input to the amplifier. I've tried it with it on and off and I think I like the "feel" of it with it off more than on but I'm afraid I may hurt the speakers w/out the subsonic filter.

I don't know if it matters and you problably saw it in the pics I posted that I have one speaker on the top plate and the 2nd speaker and the port on the bottom plate. The bottom plate of the box is 10" from the pedistal(sp?) of the sub.

I hope thats enough info to let me know what the speakers are doing in this box.

Well Maniak it seems like the enclosure you built should do really well with movies.

The enclosure comes out to be around 8.6 cu ft net after all displacements and tuned around 21Hz.

The cone displacement shouldn't be a problem with the power you have. I've had this happen to me before though...it looks like there shouldn't be a problem with the speaker bottoming out but it does though. I personally don't like big low tuned enclosures because they sound like butt on music. Personally I would rather build a transmission line for HT.

Are both speakers bottoming out or is just one??

Will do.

Actually guys I'm not into building the enclosures and shipping them out...right now I'm really busy with school to be building enclosures...I still have to build mine lol.

Maybe sometime in the spring.

But all of those people that Infinity linked to are excellent builders. They do it as a business...I just build enclosures when I have time.

Donner, what exactly are you wanting again??

sub enclosure for an 8 inch sub...what subwoofer though??

10" L x 10" W x 5" H correct?? This would probably have to be built with .5 inch material. I usually use MDF to build enclosures. With those dimensions though using .5" material the enclosure would be only .1875 cubic ft GROSS. What subwoofer do you have with a 4 inch mounting depth and works in a .1875 cu ft enclosure??
