but I wonder if a standard obd2 to serial would work.
or a scanguage obd2 to rj45 and a rj45 to serial connector. I would love to find a pin diagram for this program.

That's the Alex Pepper software that a lot of the people over at the Contour.org web site rave about. Many of the top Contour tuners and high posters use it.

trucku:

Were you able to find plans for the cable?? If you have I would be interested in them as well?

No I have not found the plans. It sucks..the software you can just download, but the cable is the catch...LOL.

I don't know anyone running this software or has the cable, because I would love to make one up.

Lots of places sell the obdII cables for as low as $15. so close but so far..lol
It hit or miss and I don't want to burn anything out with cable not setup right and plugged into my laptop.

I have the software installed, and it looks pretty nice.

But no luck with a wire diagram..

I have a cable... It for my current OBD2 scanner. It has OBD2 to a printer parallel. Maybe if I get around to it I'll try this.

The one for this software was from OBDII to serial. I have one, but haven't tried it yet. I looked over lots of the OBDII connectors and the pins vary. I might go ahead and buy the one I can make up myself and mess around with it. I will use a old laptop, just in case I burn out the serial port..

I was told by one fella that you will need an interface in the cable for it to work. The power from the laptop is only 5 volts and we will need 12 volts to get a response at all.

Anyone confirm this??

I was given the pin outs by carplugs.com, but I can't find how to attach the picture.

I think the obdII interface has enough voltage. It does for my scanguage which does not use any batteries. The laptop will not feed the interface anything. The voltage needed will come from the OBDII, thats why I am worried about burning up my laptop.

I need to get one of these Bd2 cables. Any suggestions?

Well no suggestions needed. I ordered a cable setup from Scan Tool.net total cam to $44.45 with everything need, cables and software.

I now have it in my hands, it seems to work alright. I had a check engine light on, but it went away. I guess I had a short or bad connection on the starter. I came out from playing hockey and the truck wouldn't start. Well long story short, it turned out to be the single wire coming off the starter. Once I wiggled it around a bit the truck started and the check engine light went off. I still have the ABS light on, no indication on the laptop for that though!
