Freezin's Commuter Mazda/Weekend Wheelin Machine

that ugly ass cross member up front there that does nothing. but it does hold the rails in place during a collision. you should make a new better looking one just in case you plow a big deer. and oh yes they do bend frames.

Bingo.

Yeah I thought about making a high-clearance replacement. I have the material, but not the time.

I might be borrowing a big 220v welder this weekend to weld some misc things I have been needing to weld, so I might try and make another cross member if I have the time to.

For now, the engine cross member (which Ford did a good job and making overkill IMHO) and the winch bumper assembly will be more than enough to hold the truck together.

That stupid thing served no purpose other than a funnel for when one drains the radiator and maybe protect the pitman arm a bit. Ugly...

Gonna narrow the D44, run James Duff long arms, mid-steer (considering high-steer), Warn hubs, ARB, 5.13's or 5.38's, and 35" or 37" BFG KM2's  Also considering switching to 6-lug, since the rear axle I will have to have new shafts made anyway.

March update. Axle is narrowed and welded up. Bought an Aussie locker for cheap off Craigslist. Gonna bypass the ARB locker for now, too expensive.

Sucked the wedge back on the axle with 3/4" all thread and an impact. Much easier and faster than other methods I have seen.

I don't post very often, usually once every couple of months.

I want to be SAS'd by next summer, at least, that is the goal for now. Just to bring you up to speed on the current affair.

I just need wheels tires/and axle rebuild parts from the knuckle out/coils/steering ect and misc brake parts. I am on the down hill me thinks :rangertan:

Any plans for your old steering when you swap in the 44? Oh and good looking truck!!

Yeah I'm gonna sell it as a complete ready to run steering setup. All the buyer will have to (possibly) do is modify the drop on the centerlink to match up the lift hight of the vehicle with the drop height of the center link (one cut and two welds, easy). This is because it is set up for 6" of lift and will be slightly different on another truck.

It works bueatifully too...I drive it every day and it is ten times better and stronger than the stock crap...and basically all 1-ton components. Only thing that might need to be replaced would be the idler bushings which are just standard poly leaf spring bushings for chevy leafs.

Just got a commuter so might be doing a SAS on this thing in the spring...

Well, bad news. I rolled the mazda.

Bought a 2000 Ranger and will be doing a complete cab, computer, dash, and harness swap to put the 2000 cab on the 1996 frame. Just can't bear to let her go :D

Any back story on the roll? I'm guessing you're okay

Yeah thankfully I'm all good.

I was doing brodies in my buddy's yard with a few of my prerunner friends and over did it. Ive done plenty before but usually it is wet/soggy so its easy to slide but this time was bone dry and I didn't take that into account lol

Ouch. I had to search to figure out what brodies were lol.

So with the two extra black doors, are half doors in the works yet?

haha dohnuts burnouts drifting what ever you wanna call it.

Man your good I hadn't said anything yet but i've definately thought about cuttin up the old black ones. Or I may make some tube ones. The one door is pretty botched but I think structurally it isn't to mal-shapen
