This is the progression so far of my $950 beater Explorer...
When I first got it a couple months ago it was completely intact, though smashed up in the front and rear. It leaked gas from the rotted out filler neck, had a check engine light on, and probably would have failed a state inspection. At $950 though, it was a steal. It had no major issues, just piddly crap.
And here it is today...still beat up, and missing some parts. The valence was destroyed on a local trail, as were some other plastic peices. The rocker trim was removed on purpose to get rid of Ford's convenient pocket for rust to form in. I may be getting new rockers this summer. As ugly as it is, it is now in very good mechanical condition. Most of the maintenance is caught up, there are no warning lights on, and it is very reliable. Also, the tires got bigger. It now has 31" Firestone Destination ATs. I think the 235 series Kelly tires were about to self destruct judging from the rumbling noise they created.
