I am looking to replace my shocks. I camp a lot and the back end sags a lot. I was thinking about spring assist shocks for the rear. What's a good brand for both?

I replaced my shocks with some cheep Monroe units and it made a huge difference. I'm not sure if the cheep shocks will last long because Explorer shocks seem kind of undersized for the weight of the truck. I used generic helper springs bolted over my leaf springs which took care of the sagging rear and works for city driving and towing but I'm not sure about off road use.

Thanks for the info! I need to replace the shocks but I don't want to waste my $ again on cheap shocks. I've replaced them once with cheap shocks and now I'm "paying" for it.

shocks

Gabriel Ultra. I put these on my 2000 Ex 4 door about 5 months ago. Love them. A little stiff for the sharp bumps on our streets but great on the dirt roads I travel. Not cheap at $33 each but should last for quite a while.

I have read a lot of threads on this and it seems like you get what you pay for. My old ones were so bad that they did nothing other than squeak. Next time I will check an off road shop. The opinions I read here range widely with personal taste.

I put Monroe Reflexes on mine. Great ride and dramatically improved handling!! I also replaced sway bar bushings and end links, which if you have never done is a great idea to do. Mine is 4x4, though I basically do no real off-road driving, just the occasional drive across the field at the family farm to our lake.

If your back end is sagging adding a leaf or reshaping the old ones will raise the back up. I replaced the front shocks in mine with KYB GR-2 and have been pleased with there performance. I plan to use them in the rear if I swap the old ones. New shocks won't raise your back end just give you a better ride.

basically, just get an add a leaf kit, then pick out some shocks, i used kyb GR-2's all around they were great
