Ok so I took my car in to my mechanic for some work... One thing he mentioned while he had it was that it would soon need a new front axel! How did he know that!? I mean the truck turns no problem, and I never use the 4x4 in it (i've used it twice since we bought it in '93) so what should I look for (like what are the symptoms of a dying front axel) and if I replaced it what would I gain!>!>

It depends on what he was referring to. He may have been referring to u-joints that are dried out from lack of use, or suspension components that need replacing or ???. The first thing I might do would be to call him back up and get him to explain more precisely what he thought would need replacement soon.

...I seriously doubt you need a front axle..

...x2 on getting the guy to give you some more information...In Calif., you can have him give you a detailed list of what he says need to be done to your vehicle and the etimated cost for doing so...

..Get some more information and bring it back here...I am curious if he really things you need an axle or some normal maintenance..

Well thats what he told me, and I was like WTF are you serious!?!? The car has only 86k and its bone stock and your telling me it needs a new axel!

- For the record:
- The Boots were replaced at 65k when the engine was rebuilt
- The steering wheel has a good amount of "play" in it, and I have tightened down that srew thats on top of the powersteering to get rid of it, the only thing is, when I do that the alignment with the steering wheel isn't straight...
- Also at 79k when I bought the car from my dad (owner since day 1) I had the front and rear diff oil replaced.

Dunno if any of this helps but, I thought it wouldn't kill to throw it out there :)

...I can see you needing an alignment and some linkage parts maybe, but still not an axle...

...Knowing a little bit of what that axle can take off road, until your front end starts spitting parts out, I don't see this happening to your vehicle...and even then, it's mostly maintanence or replacing broke or bent parts not apt to be found on a daily driver..

...I will say, I will be watching anxiously to see what he gives you in writing that needs replaced...:shifty_ey

Sounds to me like he was fishing for more work.

I will def give you guys the 411 on what exactly he said when i get back to Socal... I am on vacation but check back in a week

...Just remember what he says, and what he will put down in writing is not always the same..;)
