front axle noise?? heater stuck on hot??

Hi Guys,
I've got a noise on my explorer 4.0 sohc, its when i engage 4x4 high ratio
it clunks on hard left or right lock! Does this mean my front axle is
dead???
I have just had the car from my dad who never really used it in four wheel drive, Is his normal?

Also the heater is stuck on full heat is this a common fault?
My dad had it converted to run on lpg I'm wondering if the mechanic pulled something off or or disturbed something?? Any ideas?

The 4x4 system should only be used in slippery conditions. You will break something if you use it on the road in good conditions. What you are hearing is the release of axle windup. There is no central diff in the explorer. As for the heater check the hot water valve by the bulkhead and see if the vacuum tube is off.

My dad mentioned it to the ford dealer he had it from they said it was normal. Just wanted to check and make sure it was not a fob story! at least its not anything major!! i will check the hot water valve.
