Front axle seal is leaking ... can't find part

Hi ... from Germany !

I need your help !
I replaced the front CV axles on my 2013 Explorer Sport a few months ago.
At that point of time the axle seals, both sides, were slightly leaking, but only slightly.

No they are leaking to much to pass inspection and I will have to replace them.
I checked rockauto but they only offer seals for the rear ..
Why ?
I can't find any part or part # that matches my model. !

The pic below shows my passenger's side seal, is the white plastic part a kind of 'cover' and the seal is behind it ?
Or goes the plastic with the seal in one part ...?
How do I remove it without destroying it ?

PLZ can anybody provide me the matching part numbers for both sides for my model and year ?!

Following the Part Cat, I would guess it is 1177A (right) and 1177B (left)
*edit* But its a guess for the Midrange Trans. (2.3 or 2.0L Ecoboost)

9L8Z-1177-C' is listed at rockauto for around 7 bucks as Motorcraft or Ford part. In this case I would expect its easier to contact a local Ford Dealer, who is able to search for the right parts.

I will get the part # checked by my local Ford Dealer .. which is always a mess, b/c the Explorer isn't sold over here in Europe .. so he also have to check, google and telephone a lot to order the right part .. in the US.

I'm in Europe too. In this case I would recommend the site: parts.ford.com
You will need a proxy/VPN with US signiture to get connected. Afterwards a chat is available from a Ford part specialist. They are able to name the correct part with you VIN.
When selecting you vehicle, try the VIN first, if not possible use Explorer 4DR.

The exploded view is available on ford.7zap.com , but keep in mind this is sometimes outdated.

After reviewing it I saw, that I postet the Trans for the 2.0 / 2.3L Ecoboost. The picture for the 6F50/6F55 should be this one.

Both seals seems to be available at rockauto.

I notice my front left axle has some oil, is it axle seal leak as well?

My mechanic said the oil does not look like new, so told me don't worry about it, should I be concerned?

I do not see any oil. But if it is leaking you would see it directly without any discussion.

I circled using red line, within the red circle, the dark stain, is it not from oil leak?

To be honest I do not see anything.
If it’s leaking the grease is spreading all around. You can’t miss that.

Yes this looks old, but you should monitor the leak.

It's sold as a kit, incl.a kind of "tool" (HP-1) for easy mounting and for axle shaft protection.
Can be purchsed on ebay ..

According to the AutoNation site, part number DB5Z-7275-D has been replaced by DB5Z-7275-E.

Ordered the kit at my local (German) Ford dealer, which wasn't a problem.
He made me aware that the big seal ring (#7R284) has to be ordered separately, which he did.
Everything's fine ... once I have the time to instal the parts ..

Beziehungsweise könntest du mir verraten, wie du die Teile bestellt hast? Jedes Mal wenn ich nach US Teilen bei den Ford Händlern in der Umgebung gefragt habe, haben die direkt abgewunken. Und das sogar bei Ford Strunck, der eigentlich US-Car zertifiziert ist.

I order most parts from rockauto.com. Very nice but buy only OEM parts. Other than that, I used to buy parts from Lakeland Ford. They do not offer int´l shipping on the web page but if you email and ask. they usually do. Other than that I do live there for some month every year, so Lufthansa has seen me quite a few times carrying brake rotors, pads and other parts. In Germany "Ford Beck" in Wildflecken has everything, as well as Geigercars, of course.

my 2011 explorer ( base model) is leaking to the point where the transmission oil dipstick no longer detects oil. I had to add over 1L transsmission oil.

I am trying to order the seal for the front left side, however the ford part website has no picture , and I am not sure which to order. I am looking to order the whole part so I can go to my mechanic to replace it.

I am not sure what is called, I posted a picture back Nov 2018, see #10 in the current thread.


I searched "Link Shaft Transfer Case Seal", which gives me the following result, and since no pictures on them, I am having a hard time to know which one is the set I am looking for. Ideally I am hoping to have the whole set and remove tool if that is how they are sold
