Just recently my brakes haven't felt up to much and i was getting what i thought was bearing noise.
I poked my head under there a couple of weeks ago and jacked up the front. the bearings felt fine but i spotted the inside of both discs were corroded and hence the brakes not working properly.

So ordered up some new discs and pads. I got mintex discs and pads as i have used them on another car and found they perform well.

I got the kit on friday but didn't have a chance til today. Sods law the day the snow comes, but i cracked on with it anyway.

This is the back of one of the old discs, the other wasn't quite as bad.

I took the carrier off and inspected the slider pins. They were a little gummed up but had some grease in there albeit a little solid. So i cleaned em up and used a bit of wire wool and also cleaned out all the old grease from the bores and the bellows. Refitted with some fresh brake grease (NOT copper slip) and they felt smoother, yey.

All the spring clips got the wire wool and copper slip treatment to.
The new discs were cleaned with brake cleaner prior to fitting to clean off the shipping oil coating.

I also had a peek under the dust boots for the pistons and it was all shiny under them so left them well alone. All four pistons pushed in with ease, using a caliper rewind tool.

On reassembly I used a bit of threadlok and did em up about "very tight" with a breaker bar.
And voila

I finished by doing a quick bleed all around.
They now feel 100 times better right from the off even before the pads are bedded in.

Happy motoring

Looking good Jan! Not sure I would brave the weather though to do this though.

Jobs a good 'un!

I really must tackle my fluid changes for the diffs. and transfer case - but it's too cold (and I'm poor).

The poor bit i can relate to but if it is just the cold then don't be a wuss and get on with it :D

I was wearing some old snowboard trousers and a fleece and coat and work gloves tho.

Tuesday i then changerd the waterpump on a micra i bought for the missus, again rolling around on the soaking cold driveway. Today i was back under the truck to re-address the wiring i trapped when removing the tranny a couple of years ago. One of the wires i had to use a connector block as i couldn't get the solder to take but since then i have bought a gas soldering iron. So soldered and heatshrink and all good.

I then handwashed the car

Just bloody showing off now!!!

But it looks sooo much nicer clean and shiny

I was gonna polish it to but it was a bit too cold for the polish and after washing the last last layer of polish i put on was still working!

That's one nice clean looking ride.
Great job on the brakes. Did mine not too long ago with the slotted rotors.
Having the ability to do it yourself sure saves a lot of money and konwing they were done right.
Keep up the good work and stay warm.

She is looking very clean, well done Jan :D
