Front Bumper Fit Issue

My New Explorer...Bursting at the Seams?

I noticed this over the last couple of days: The part of the bumper that butts up against the driver's side fender doesn't want to stay put. I noticed it was sticking out about 1/4" yesterday...I compared it to the other side, and it was flush. So...I pressed it back in, felt it snap into the clips, and thought all was well. But...after driving it only a few miles, I saw it had come out again. I've tried snapping it back in several times now, but it never stays after driving the vehicle. I've made an appointment at my dealer to look at it...they will look at it, but most likely it will have to go to their body shop if the clips need to be replaced.

I've circled where it's popping out in this picture (alas...not my car...LOL). H

Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven’t noticed this issue at all with my Explorer. Is it possible you may of got hit? I would definitely go and see whats up at your dealer though.

This issue was common with the early build 2011 Explorers that had that part popping out. So you're not alone.

Glad they took care of that issue... :)

Dealer call...

my 2012 Limited has the same issue. Hasn't bothered me enough to take action though...

LOL Joe! I thought they had nailed that one down long ago. Good thing is, we don't seem to have that issue...yet :)

Welcome to the boards, OzzieMike; your Explorer is so excited, it’s bursting at the seams to be driven! ;) LOL JK

Seriously though, I’m confident your dealer will take care of it; when is your appointment?

I still have your Explorer’s details from before, dutchman71; let me know via PM and I’ll lend a hand.

Cory,

I have an appointment for Thursday morning, August 2nd. I will update this thread afterwards.

Thanks for checking!

Well, my dealer had his service guys look at the issue, and they must have done a better job popping the bumper back in. After popping it back in, they pulled on it, then drove the car on some twisty roads, and it stayed in. I drove it to work, and see that it's still attached properly. (I guess they must have pushed harder on it than I did...but, then again, they'd know better than I exactly how hard it can be pushed before damaging it).

I will update here if it pops out again....my fingers are crossed that it won't.

I’m glad the bumper’s where it should be, OzzieMike; thanks for checking in. :D

I too am experiencing the same problem with the drivers side fender popping out by the light. It happened when we went to AZ from CA just last week, and happens now every time I drive. I am taking it into the Ford dealership next week to have it looked at. I am wondering if it has to do with extreme heat; as I had the vehicle in CA for 5 months before visiting AZ, and this didn't happen beforehand.

Hey Vicki310,

I wanted to circle back and touch base with you on your Explorer. Do you have any updates to share with us? If you need any assistance, send me a PM and I'll look into your case. Be sure to include your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.

Bumper clip help

Hi guys,

I can see why you would want to have your front bumper fit just right, and I’d like to reach out to lend a hand by escalating your concern. So I can help, please send me a private message with your VIN, approximate mileage, and dealer name.

Cory

Hi Cory. My sister just purchased a new 2013 Explorer and called me to say her bumper is doing exactly what others have described. It is a brand new vehicle and popping out by the headlight. She brought it to the dealer today and they said she must have hit something and she was very upset. They have told her she needs to make a stop by the auto body center to have it checked. What can be done to make this process easy and gain her confidence back?

Hi PaulMitchell89,

I'm Crystal; I'm the current Ford Service Rep on this forum. Send me a private message (PM) with your sister's information; I'll be happy to get this into the hands of her regional customer service manager. In your message, be sure to include the VIN, current mileage, preferred servicing dealership, her full name, and best daytime phone number. I'll do the rest!

Hi Crystal! Thank you! I am unsure how to personal message you. Can you give me the details so I can give you her phone number?

Mine's been doing it after freeway drives, driver-side bumper cover popping out at the top of the seam just behind the headlight. Dealership was quick to blame parking over curb stops, but it does it on a drive to work every day.
