hey everyone... I have a 2000 awd 5.0 and it has a Dana 35 front axle if i remember correctly .... the front diff has been leaking slowly for a while now and its just to darn cold out to change the seal right now.. im gonna wait till spring... just curious what fluid i should use to fill it.... auto zone said that it was a special fluid i had to get from the dealership...is this true or can i just use a basic heavy weight gear lube?? im gonna try looking it up but any added info will help thanks in advance

AutoZone.....LOL... :thumbdwn:

Use off the shelf Stinky Conventional or Synthetic 80-90w gear oil found at just about any auto store

Keep checking the level and add as needed until you get around to it.

haha yea i know autozone isn't the best place for advice... but i figured they could tell me the oil needed for my front diff... i figured it was 80-90w but didnt know if with the awd if a heavier weight was needed thanks.

AutoZone....Good for Prices....BAD on Advice....

Autozone told me they didn't have any spec's for which types of fluids to use. Look in my owners manual. Guess that way they can't be held reliable if you put wrong fluids in.

The rear diff you will need a friction modifier from the dealership. Cost me $7 and some change for it. It also takes a synthetic gear oil. I also have a 2000 5.0 and mine came with the dealer handbook/manual. It also has the quantities listed if you need them.
