My 98 Mountie is Supposed to be AWD, but doesn't have the front diff, d/s or obviously CV axels. I'm just wondering if the Diffs from the 4wd version is different as compared to the AWDs? I know my rear is a 3.73 so can i just find a donor X or Mountie with a 3.73 rear to steal the front diff from, or does it have to be a AWD to start with? Also what front d/s will fit? i know that there is the Double cardon (only the 4.0 had this from what i can find), and then the 4 bolt, and the 6 bolt "cup" shafts. IIRC mine is the 6 bolt cup on the t-case, Did the 4wds have the 6 bolt as well or just the AWDs? Sorry if its been discussed before but i did a quick search and didn't find what i was looking for, lol.

One last question, did any front diffs come with Limited slip from the factory? Would be sweet to have it on both ends this winter.

Any front axle (other than the vacuum disconnect) will work. Are you sure you have a t-case? They did make V8 Explorers & Mountainners in 2wd as well.

There are two different length front drivsahfts (prop shaft) used. If your Mounty is AWD it will have the CV joint at the t-case.

No there was never a factory front limited slip offered.

If it is AWD and you did drive it like that for a long time, by now, the central locking diff has the Viscous Coupling fried/locked for good.

Yes i have a t-case, Before i got the truck i installed a new one for the previous owner because the chain was stretched and ate the guides up and eventually started binding and locking up. But thanks for trying to give me the look out . And thanks for the Info bud.

not true, VC is good. The fact that i have to block my tires when i park on a hill is fact of that lol.
