I pulled the front diff from a '99 Mounty AWD. The pinion gear was smooth and about 5-8 teeth were broken/chipped on the ring. I did some searching for a cheap replacement ring and pinion but I can't find much for the Explorer/Mountaineer. Most Dana 35 parts show up for a Jeep. The part that I'm really unsure of is that the Jeep uses a D35 as a solid REAR axle, while we use D35 as independent front. Would the ring and pinion still work from a jeep? And also, got any ideas on how to get the pinion nut loose when I have nothing to grab on to?

The Jeep dana 35 will not work. You need the D35 from an explorer. It's also different for the durango FYI. Depending on your ratio you'll have a different spicer #. If you can find out your ratio and send me a PM I have them in stock. The spicer # for the 3.55 is 707359-2X IIRC.

The ratio is 3.73. 41 ring, 11 pinion. PM with a price shipped to 26201 if you could.
