Hi Group
I am a new member with a drive line Issuse. I need to replace the front drive shaft from the transfer case to the front axle and was wondering how it comes out or how it is connected to the transfer case. Is this a tough job to handle?

Thanks

I removed mine from my 98 explorer and it was fairly easy to do..
Theres star heads bolts that hold the front of the shaft to the transfer case and a socket for the back of the shaft that connects to the differensal..

You'll need a prybar for the front to pop it away from the transfer case and the back should come out fairly easy..

Hope this helps ya out!

I think you'll find the Ford/Mazda pretty easy to work on once you get a little grease under your finger nails............A lot of the maintenance items can be completed with a 1/4" socket set............If you don't feel good 'prying' on the flange, give it a pop with a rubber mallet to loosen it up.............$ .02 worth.........B-Safe :exp::chug:

welcome

Is it a 5.0?

If it is I believe the front is 4 T-27 star drives and there are 6 maybe 10 mm bolts in the rear.

If everything isn't rusted it comes right off fairly easy.

I think it is a T-30 torx socket in front (x4) and an 8mm typical 6 point socket (x6) for the transfer case end. This is what I have seen personally on the 99 and 00 models I have worked with.

You may need a BFH :hammer: or prybar/large screwdriver to release the ends as others have said.
