I think I figured out my "squealing transfer case" question. The noise is apparently coming from the front universal joint. My question is, once I drop the front of the front driveshaft, does it just pull out/off the transfer case or is there more disassembly to do. I read on here somewhere that the c/v joint, which is at the transfer case end of the front driveshaft, came apart when they removed the driveshaft. Is this normal or would it only happen if you need a new c/v joint. My Haynes manual is somewhat vague. Thanks in advance.

If i remember correctly at the transfer case was the 6? torx head bolts. at least it was on my dads 2000 limited. Maybe a T30 or T35. I may be full of it though.

The U-joint obviously stays attached with the driveshaft but not the CV joint. Shouldn't have any problems taking it out. I didn't when I removed mine 4 years ago. I believe it is a T30.
