front drive shaft

hi all
bought a 1998 explorer a few weeks back and all was well apart from 4x4 hi and low lights flashing 6 times every now and then any way did a few searchs on here to find out possible causes
and set to investegate and what a shock i had when i found out that front drive shaft was missing (gone)
just got me wondering why its missing now so am trying to locate one now any of you guys able to tell me what size bolts are needed to refit and what to look out for once its fitted and are there more than one kind of front drive shaft for 1998 explore all advice really welcome
and also some one told me the jockey needs changing any body able to tell me what the jockey is or what it is short for

Best bet is to go to a junkyard and pick up the driveshaft and bolts. The bolts are pretty unique so you might have a hard time finding them at a store. I have no idea what a jockey is.

I think you will have difficulty with getting a used one at a scrap yard over here. Because they are very rare. But the underlying question is why would someone remove the front drive shaft. Is this to mask some other fault? I would be in contact with the seller and see if they have it. Also try and find out why it was removed. Best of luck. I have no idea what a jockey is either. On mine the shaft has a cv joint at the transfer case and a uj at the axle. The uj sits in cups with straps bolted over them. The uj is held using 8 long torx bolts.

thanks guys for advice went back to dealer today told him, to sort it all so called trading standards and they have taken it over for me thanks once again

well garage phoned today and are fitting drive shaft today so hope to get ex back soon if all goes well today but not counting on it as its the worst garage i have ever had to deal with as they are full of bull
