I didn't post in 911 b/c it will run around town fine with RWD only, but I'm a little buffaloed by this.

98 Ex SOHC, 120K, swapping the transfer case for a rebuild (will post about company/price/service when my wife has beta tested it). The current case is tired and the chain jumps under load. Anyway, pulling the front driveshaft the first bolt at the CV end is goopy with grease. There's a bit of grease on the body where the rotation would have flung it, but not alot.

There's no evidence the boot is piereced anywhere, the shaft moves in and out smoothly, but there's a LOT of grease on all the bolts. Is this expected? When will it run out of grease, for crying out loud?

Thanks for any info. 11 AM PST.

Regards,
Brian in CA
