Just last night my Explorer started to make a very loud clunking noise on the left front side. I thought that maybe because of the very cold temperatures here in Colorado that we just got blessed with that maybe it was just a build up of ice and snow. Well it was happening this morning and now my car is currently at a shop getting looked at and they have no clue what is wrong. The noise only happens at slow speeds and when slowing to a stop. It happens only slightly when accelerating and when turning right. I had both my front ball joints and control arms replaced in September and my tie rods a little over a year ago. It almost feels and sounds like it catches on something and the releases (clunking). If anyone has any insight as to what this could be I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you

Does your front drive shaft have a CV joint where it connects to the T-Case? If so I would have them check it.

I'm not familair with the V6 set up but 97-2001 V8 AWD models have a CV joint at the T-case.

I will have them check. From what they told me it only happens when it's being driven bearing a load of some sort, but when they put it on the lift and tested it, nothing happened. Thank you very much for your recommendation.
