need advice on grinding from the front pasenger side wheel. replaced hub today, noise better but not gone. when turning left the noise gets worse with the body roll. shop says oversized tires the problem. i call BS on that. they also said it is the hub. when the front is jacked up there is play in passenger side wheel.. push/pull one hand on top one on bottom. this slop is not present on the drivers side. looks like it is wiggling at the spindle... you can see the boot wiggle right next to the inside of the wheel. what do i need to replace? halfshaft? cv joint?HELP. searched and read considerable previous posts and they all lean to the hub. what else could it be! 98 AWD EB.

First thing that comes to mind is ball joints. If you replaced the hub assembly and your still seeing "slop", best bet is to start there first.

When standing a ways back, at the front of the vehicle, with tires pointing straight, how do your tires look?

#1 is normal, if you see anything similar from 2-7, definitely get the balljoints checked/replaced as well as an alignment.

it is also possible you got a defective hub/bearing assembly as well, it happens. Play it safe a double check the new one.

cant tell visually if the passenger tire has a lean to it. the tire does show minor wear to the inside though. thanks for the help. time do fix the ball joints. should i do both fronts or the bad one? truck is for sale.

Wear on the inside of the tire is definitely an indicator of a bad balljoint. The wear could be a cause of the noise you're still hearing as well, tire could have some "cupping" that you may not notice visually.

As far as to do one, or both of the balljoints, If the other side checks out ok, I'd say do the side that presents a problem. On the other hand, if you want to play it safe since it's being sold, I'd do both sides, and let the new buyer know they are done.

Also, incase you haven't solved your problems, I had a hub replaced becuase mechanic could wiggle tire, but it turned out to be the bushings on the upper control arm. Even on a FRAME HOIST you can feel loose upper control arm bushings while suspension is haning. Many cars you cannot feel it like this loose control arm bushings are commonly midiagnosed on explorers as hubs or other things.
