front end troubles

ok, so i got in my truck the other day at work (an hour away from home:thumbdwn and started to leave the parking lot. as soon as i turned my wheels the front end binds up and feels like i'm steppin on the brake. it will bind for a few seconds and then pop loudly and go fine for a few feet and do it again. its a 97 xlt 4x4 with control trac. any ideas would be appreciated

yeah, i came to that conclusion but it shouldn't be. it's in 4auto. i even tried putting it in 4hi and 4lo and back into auto to get it back out. i can hear it clunk out of 4wd when going back to 4auto but it still binds up.:thumbdwn:

since, i've pulled the front drive shaft and disconnected the tcase so i could get home. i wanna get the drive shaft back in and get it figured out. i was thinking maybe brown wire mod and see if that clears it up and just flip the switch when i want 4wd. any ideas?

Is your caliper bolts loose? Lot of people having trouble with calipers coming off...
I was one of them...

long story i ended up thinking that was it after thinking it was my ball joints. checked them and they were fine. had it f up on me the other night (front driveshaft out) and it was missing a caliper bolt (my fault) but that's not the original problem. I just dont wanna have to get a new tcase or front diff if i can help it. thanks for the replies though so far. any other ideas?

Yep, clipping the brown wire should work. Some say constantly having the brown wire interupted will cause harm. I personally don't see how. Mechanically your T-case is probably fine but the electronics want to lock it for some reason. These electronic gremlins usually are hard to track down and often expensive to fix. Id still try but that's just me.

i'll do the bwm asap and report any findings i have. hopefully good, but i can't be sure
