I'm in the middle of a serious explorer project, and I've got most everything that I want, but I was thinking, I have the pig out, should I weld the spider gears?? I rarely use 4wd unless climbing, crawling or playing in the swamps. but never on the roads or when going faster than 25 mph. I really don't want to spend a bunch of money on a locker, but I want the extra traction! Any suggestions??

Is this thing ever going to be on the road? If it isn't a 100% trail rig, I wouldn't even think of doing it.

and why is that? I have manual locking hubs, and I'm always in 2wd, my axle wouldn't be turning, right? only when I have at least 1 hub locked in. And also, if in the rare chance that I did need 4wd on the road, couldn't I just lock 1 hub?

I can see your logic !

I dont see any real problem, other than the extra strain on the housing and the push stear when you do use it. Be kind to it. It is an alum. housing.

hey thanks guys, I've really been considering this, but I wanted a little feedback before I did. I just painted the front pig last night, and hopefully will be ready by this weekend to put the motor, trans, and axles in by this weekend! wish me luck.
