On my '97 the switch itself went bad.

It was around $60 U.S. from Ford.

is there a way i can check which part is bad? whether a switch or the whole track?

Does it move in any direction?

Mine started by not moving front to back & then got to where it would lower but not raise.

I doubt the motor is bad.

well, yeah it died awhile ago, slowly....real slow, and then somedays it would work and then not, but now it doesnt move in any direction.....how long do the motors in seats usually last? ive had my turn signal switch go bad, so my high beams wouldnt work but everything else did, so i just replaced that switch and it was fine, is this the same kinda thing? any part numbers i can look up?

thanks for the help by the way, its really appreciated,

Sounds like the switch. Mine did the same thing.

I don't know the part # of the switch. I do know it's a ford only part.

Try looking here www.fordpartsonline.com

My 96 X will go backwords and forwards. up and down in the rear, but the front tilt, nothing. I press the switch, the motor makes noise (humms), but the front part of the seat just sits there. Its as if the gear is not turning the screw (drive). Any thoughts?

hey, not to hijack the thread, but my drivers seat is also dead but not power, the part of the seat where you lean your back on moves around back and forth. i don't know how i broke it but i was cleaning the back of the car, i leaned on the seat to much and it snapped and it went forward. now that part of the seat moves back and forth. i can't drive like this, so i went ahead and put milk carts over there, it does the job but i want to fix it. how do i fix this? i took the power things off and the adjuster that moves the back, back and forth isn't there, i think it broke long time ago. do i have to buy a new seat? can i get this fixed? thanks
ps: sorry for the long post.

hey xd, sounds like you snapped a screw or something off, and you opened up the seat? mines a manual type to for the seat back, but i did get a recall notice and ford did say that it was faulty, like it could snap off, and they said it was a screw/bolt that was the culprit, try checking recalls and see if they can fix it for free.....

anyways, dan thanks for the replies, i havent had time to repair my seat but i have found a used switch on ebay, but im going to go by a ford dealership and probably buy a new one, i have to replace some bulbs and other stuff (do some sound deadening ) too so im gonna do it all at once, agains thanks, if that doesnt work ill send you a pm...

I investigated the problem further and noticed that the screw doesn't spin to raise or lower the front portion of my passenger seat. The rear moves up and down, and the whole seat slides backwards and forwards. When I raise or lower the rear portion of the seat, or slide it all the way back, the switch stops making noise (hmmm). For the raising and lowering of the front portion of the seat, the switch keeps working. It’s as if the motor is not connected to the screw, and never reaches the end. It just keeps going. I tapped it with a hammer, tried to force it up with a crowbar. Sprayed it with WD-40. I’m open to all suggestions.
