hi all im a new member from brisbane australia iv a 2000 xlt auto have a problem with front drive shaft or so i thought i have a noise coming fron the fron end sounds like 4x4 tring to engage when i power on so i took the shaft out and replaced the front bearing and uni also re balaneced the shaft while out the problem was gone while i drove when i put shaft back in noise came back ? so ive taken to local ford dealer here in brisbane who knows f/all said it was tyeres because ive just replaced frontones . but noise was there before any other suggestions :navajo:
 






When Ford assembled the front axles, they got lazy and did not use any lubrication onto the splines. I had the same problem and replaced new bearing and no solution.

You need to remove the wheels, brake assembly and the axle nut (32 mm) and yank the axle shaft back way from the hub and light grease the spline and the edge of the shaft. When re-intall you'll need to use a drope or two of lock tight and torque it to proper spec. I think it is 150 lbs.
