front shocks

I just my 90k inspection done and the garage informed me that the front shocks are getting to soft, I agree. I would love to replace them with a firmer version than the stock on.
Can someone recommend shock slightly stiffer than ford shocks but that could be just swap with the existing ones?
Can I do the job without lifting the front end?

I just replaced the stock shocks with the Rancho RS5000s. There was a deal going on here in town and I took advantage of it. The Ranchos firmed my ride quite nicely without being obnoxiously stiff and without breaking the bank. I also looked at the Monroe Sensatracs before settling on the Ranchos. I did the replacement myself and no, I did not have to lift the X. Fairly easy, IMHO.
