I was driving home today and when i came to a stop i heard bang sound. well i looked under the front tire and found that the stabalizer bar link bold on top snapped off and is just loose now. I have to go to work in the morning and am wondering whether it is safe to drive , or will i cause some other damage.

here is a pic i found in archives

so the bar came off where the two yellow circles are. I also need to know the part numbers for this if possible so i can grab them from ford later tomorrow. Might as well do both sides. thanks

Its safe to drive. I drove mine for awhile before replacing it. I did notice alot of wobble on the freeway when hitting any bumps. Nothing I would consider dangerous. Part# 2L2Z5K483BA

Great, Thanks for the quick reply, i feel better now.

Well i went out and bought a kit to do the both sides, its by trw suspension and steering systems. Was about 50 bux cad. It didn't come with any grease like i saw the kit at exploresexpress had. Should i grease these up or just install them as they are? and if so what type of grease should i use?

Also any tips on removing the old one that is still intact on the drivers side? and the one on the passenger side the top piece with the bolt is missing but the bottom is still hanging on, i just tried to yank it out with my hand but still seemed to be held on pretty good.

heres a pic of the kit

Die grinder or sawzall. Cut right through the top lower bushing and it'll pop right off.

Well i got em all done . i didnt have a torque wrench with me so i just guessed but i will make sure tomorrow, just going to borrow one from a friend at work. So it was quite an easy fix. Now my ride seems a little smoother and the clunking noises went away.

Now maybe i will get to doing the rear when i have more time.

Thanks for all the helpful info.

wow, mine did the exact same thing yesterday, except I took a turn on a bumpy road when it broke. Gonna fix it after the holidays because I'm leaving on vacation for a month

I don't know that the rears ever break, completely different design.

FWIW, I didn't put any lube on mine when I replaced them, but if they start squeaking, hit them with silicone spray, anything else will be detrimental to the life of those urethane bushings.

Smart move replacing both sides at once, I only did one, then the other broke 2 months later...DOH!

I figured i might as well, it only took me an hour. and thats only because someone swiped my ramps when i forgot to close the garage one day in the summer. So i dont have any now :( and the x was really dirty too.

I decided to change them right way since i it felt like it was really leaning when i took turns, and the clunking noises annoyed me.

Apparently these break more often in colder areas, but the new ones look way beefier then the stock ford kit with the plastic sleeve.

THE same excat thing happen to me. when i finally got my front sway parts (the whole front sway bar kit by energy suspension) it felt like I just bought a new truck.

Any idea if the energy suspension Swaybar kits they carry in Autozone will fit the 2nd gen X's? They carry several in there and they list them as pretty much universal with no specific applications. Anyone got the part numbers for the energy suspension kit for the Ex?

Call them. I did. It took me over 30 days to get my kit up to Chicago. So, I call E-Suspension & the guy was pretty helpful.

I just replaced mine last weekend how tight are they supposed to be torqued to?? just want to make sure they arent to tight or to loose.

Book says 15-21 ft/Lbs, I just cranked 'em down until the bushings smooshed good :D
