OK I've posted this in 2 different forums and the 911 post got deleted and the one in the new member forum has yet to be answered. I bought my explorer maybe 6 months ago used. Its a 94. There is grese coming out of the hubs in the front and now its become a really rough ride. There is a grinding/vibrating sensation when driving it. Sort of like when your brake pads are going out and u break and u feel that grind. I am almost certain its the front wheel bearings, and i know how to take them out and repack them and replace the greese seal, but I need to know how much i have to tighten them when i put them back on, I would really like to get this done in the next few days so could somebody please help me with this? I would appreciate it thanks.

It doesn't help get a quicker reply if you post in multiple forums, all it does is get your posts deleted and annoy people. Your post was deleted from the 911 forum because this is not a 911 situation. A 911 situation is when your truck is stuck on the side of the road or something drastic like that. There are rules at the top of that forum for what you should/should not post in there.

Regarding your original question, there are two things I would do. First, use the search function to see if someone else has answered the same question before. And second, buy a Haynes/Chilton manual, which should have all that info in it.

ya i saw those rules after i had posted, sorry bout all that, after i posted this one i did search around and i found it, i do have that manual, but i didn't see how much i had to tighten it. I'm pretty new to this site and now I know that I have to search. Sorry if I annoyed anybody.

I'm not sure how much to tighten them, but me and my dad just used a big pair of pliers, and tighted them up. We used a tighten loosen method untill the rotor was on there snug and did not move front and back.

basically about it, screw it down handtight, make sure it doesnt move, then put a tool on it and jsut get it very little tighter...

Found this off alldata, its for a ranger but it should be the same.
Raise and support front of vehicle.
Remove wheel cover, grease cap, cotter pin and locknut.
Loosen adjusting nut 3 turns, then lock wheel assembly in and out several times to push brake shoe and linings away from rotor.
torque adjusting nut to 17-25 ft lb while rotating wheel assembly.
Loosen adjusting nut 1/2 turn, then retorque to 10-15 inch lbs. on 1987-89 models, or to 18-20 inch lbs., on 1990-92 models.
Install locknut and cotter pin.
Ensure wheel assembly rotates smoothly, then reinstall grease cap and wheel cover and lower vehicle.
