Frustrating starting problem

2001 sport trac sometimes when I go out to start it it just turns over doesn't even try to hit Checked it is fireing didn't think it would be fuel pump because when it starts you can drive it all day never misses or cuts out. Any ideas

If there's nothing wrong with the operation of the fuel level gauge, I'd replace the pump part of the assembly. That way you don't need to mess with disconnecting the fuel line (which is usually very hard to do). I've replaced a bunch of Ex/Mountaineer/ST fuel pumps and I just buy the pump, strainer sock and a new fuel filter off eBay. Runs around $80 total.

This is the pump (Bosch 69128) I put in my '01 Sport Trac a year and a half ago. It comes with everything you will need (and a bunch of stuff you will not need). Be sure to use the fuel hose it comes with to also replace the piece from the regulator to the outlet, as well as piece from the pump to the regulator. You will not need one of the pump insulators or the large O-rings.

Tip: Before buying a fuel filter, check your old one to see if it has 2 ports or 3. Mine has 3 and was more expensive and harder to locate. I used a AirTex FS199 strainer sock, which I also bought off eBay.
