Can a fuel cap go bad? My check engine light keeps coming on, and everytime I'm told its my gas cap. I can't say Ive ever been told what the actual code is, just my gas cap.
Could a vaccum leak other than at the fuel cap trigger a code?

Any answers, advice, tricks, anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.

BTW - Its a 99 EB

Testman, it's the neoprene O-ring on the gas cap that leaks, and it usually triggers a P0455 "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Gross Leak)".

Check the O-ring to see if it's still intact, and if it is, rub a dab of petroleum jelly on it. That may be enough to confirm whether it's worn or not.....

I have the same code and problem and I've replaced the gas cap and I'm still getting the code. I guess I need to follow the vacum lines down...

OK, if it's not the gas cap, take a look at the EVAP purge solenoid located above the spare tire. Check the vacuum hoses for attachment and cracks, and the electrical connector. This solenoid is in a very wet environment (when driving in rain and snow), and corrodes easily.
