Hey guys, I am having a problem with the fuel cap light coming on and the cap is on. Does anyone know how to check this or do I just have to buy a new cap? Also can I buy a cap from any autoparts store or do I have to go to the dealership? Thanks.

I didn't know there was a fuel cap light. Do you mean check engine light? A loose fuel cap could cause a check engine light along with over 300 other things. If it is indeed the check engien light take it to a repair shop so they can fix it.

Yeah, its a fuel cap light. Not the check engine light.

Check the seals on your cap - maybe lube it up and try it again. You need to make sure it's tight. Also, you might need to reset the computer so it'll run the evap monitors again

I lubed the seals on the cap and reset the computer, but the check engine light came on, however no fuel cap light, any ideas?

My Taurus had the fuel cap light come on and off at random times 2 years ago when I bought it. Took about me about a week to realize what the indicator meant. After A while it kind of just stopped. However my CEL is always on due to a bad catalytic converter. Now if I could just figure out why my brake light never goes off...

C69, The autostores (autzone) will read codes for free. Post them here and people will assist.

I've got a code reader...I just can't seem to get my wife to park the car long enough to hook the reader up.
