Fuel Cap Light

Here is a link to a system description of operation:

Try checking your local library for a Haynes manual or some have online access to car repair manuals.

Here is another post about evap systems. Read the last posting:

Here is one that has a generic schematic:

Do you know where I can find a good explanation of how the EVAP system works, and a schematic? It would really help.

Running around the 'Net is fine, but some info/sites seem fractured, incomplete; I have had the most gratifying results by using Ford Service Publications, produced by Helm, Inc. My Explorer Shop Manual is the best source I have found for what you are seeking. imp

I'm having the same problem as everyone else, it started with gas cap light and now it's gas cap and check engine lights coming on every few hundred miles (have had them cleared at local parts stores). Did anyone ever come up with a fix? Thanks in advance.

I just fixed my issue, finally! Had the exact same CGC light, followed shortly after with the CEL. if you crawl under the truck, there'll be some hoses tied to the filler neck, one of those hoses connect to a canister valve of some type, one seems to have some sort of a cap or valve at the top, and one appears to attach to the rear end. Mine were completely dry rotted and on was actually ripped, replaced and reconnected the hoses, and no issue now! Have been trough about 4 fill ups, and about 2 weeks, with no annoying lights emitted. I'll post pics tomorrow.
