The cap (appears to be original Motorcraft) that was there when I got this vehicle was broken... it looked like someone tried to install or remove with pliers and broke the knob off. The threaded part does not seem to fit.
I purchased a new one and guess what? That one doesn't fit either. I looked at caps while at a salvage yard. They are identical to my original.
Measurements of the diameters and thread pitch say that it should fit and the threaded neck appears to be intact.
So... why doesn't it fit?
...and another thing; why isn't the CEL squawking that the fuel cap is not sealing?
