This weekend big bro and myself chnged the plugs, wires, and filters. We were about to change the fuel filter and Reading thru the Chiltons Explorer book, they suggested that the fuel filter doen't need changed on the explorer.

They said it would only need changed if it was clogged.

By the way I have 67,500 miles on my truck.

Well, I don't particularly agree with the manual on several points and this happens to be one of them. However, unless your having some fuel system related problems, I probably wouldn't change it yet. From the searches I did in the past before I changed my filter I found that these things generally last 100k, unless you've had a lot of sediment built up in your tank from "dirty" gas. If and when you decide to change the filter you will need to buy a quick disconnect tool to get the fuel lines off the filter. You will also need to depressurize the fuel system. Good luck!!

I would change the thing, the filter costs about $12.00 & the quick disconnect tool costs another $5.00. The whole job only takes 10 min. and good preventitive maintenance is always cheaper than the alternative.

When I replaced mine at 40k I blew (backwards) its contents into a coffee can, nasty crud!
