Read up on the few posts here, looked at the pictures and bought the metal tool and a Wix filter. Wix was made in the USA, and the Motocraft was mexico I think and a dollar more.

Anyways, hardest part was using the metal tool on disconnecting the outlet side.

My only thing was I was looking into the outlet line and there are 4 metal tabs. 3 look alike and the 4th one was bent at a 90 degree. I thought I bent it myself by pushing the tool in, but I didnt push it that hard. Then I thought it must be like that and pushed it back on and it made the famous snap/click noise so I know it was good. ?

All in all it took me a hour start to finish. I put anti seize on everything. Poked a hole in the old filter and it looked like coca cola pouring out.!

It runs way smoother, exhaust sound doesnt sound as loud. Throttle response seems better as well as starting.

It was last changed at 30k miles.

All in all I am glad I got it done with out any trouble and I thought I would share.

thanks
JAKE

Got the Wix the last time I changed mine. I always try to buy American.

I just got a pair of FG1036's in the mail and they're stamped Made in USA. Of course they're probably NOS so no telling where they're made now.

Good to hear about the filter change, I'm dreading mine but I think the factory one is ready to go after 92k.

I change all my cars at 30k miles. The motocraft one I seen was at walmart, so maybe if I got it from a Ford shop it would have been different.

Never heard anything bad about wix filters, so I figure give it a try.

but anyone have any comments on the 4 little tabs that the fuel filter pushes into?

like I said, that one little metal tab inside bent at 90 degrees. Other 3 are bent at 45 degrees. Is that normal? I thought so as there really was no way I could have bent that, but I am a paranoid person.
